Savage Defense vs Frenzied Regen

First disclaimer before we get started is that I will be leaving out glyphed Frenzied Regen from this discussion. I'll leave that for another post.

So, which is better? Savage Defense or Frenzied Regen... well it depends. The major factors being:

- How much rage per second do you generate?
- How much damage you are taking?
- How much of that damage is "dodgable"?

Well to put it simply I've done the math for you and have added it to the spreadsheet. If you wish to edit it for your stats, save your own copy of this sheet and simply input you current stats in the green boxes on the first sheet.

By putting in your stats you'll be able to see:

- The Uptime on Savage Defense (or Glyphed Frenzied Regen).
- How much a 60 rage Frenzied Regen will heal you for with full vengeance.
- How much healing per second that is based on your rage per second.
- And most importantly the breaking point of "dodgable" damage in a boss fight when Savage Defense will be better than Frenzied Regen.

So let's look at my output with my current gear:

Dam/Sec Taken - 80,000
Unmitigated - 109,311

Rage Per Second - 9.74

SD/Glyphed FR Uptime - 97.45%
FR 60 Rage Heal -174,637
FR HPS - 28,363
Resulting in:

Savage Defense > Frenzied Regen Breaking Point - 43.85% "Dodgable" Damage

This means in a boss fight if 43.85% of my damage taken is "dodgable" I will be mitigating more damage then I would be healing if I was using Frenzied Regen.

Last Disclaimer: This is just the numbers, there are a lot of other things that should be consider when making the choice on which button to push. Play smart, play bear!

The Elusive Mouseover Macro

It's becoming more and more apparent that there are a number of things I think I take for granted. I've spent a lot of time recently going through stream recordings for my YouTube channel and I've noticed some things that I feel a lot of players don't utilize.

Enter the Mouseover Macro...

#showtooltip Growl
/cast [@mouseover, exists, harm][exists, harm] Growl;

As a tank, I use mouseovers for everything I can do at range. This actually apparently came to my attention in our Heroic Madness kill this pass week when we were discussing who should have picked up the add when the tanks died at the end.

#showtooltip Distracting Shot
/cast [@mouseover, exists, harm][exists, harm] Distracting Shot;
/cast Deterrence

Google Spreadsheets And Encounter Assignments

Recently I've been trying to put together online resource that I've generated or have found useful and I want to quick put together a small tutorial on how I've been using Google Spreadsheets to generate assignments and macro for me.

I'm going to assume a small level of understanding when it comes to using spreadsheets but I will make sure to outline stuff that maybe unclear for a typical user.

Let's take a look at my Heroic Madness of Deathwing spreadsheet:

I know it's a bit cramped, here is a direct link Heroic Madness of Deathwing Assignments

So, in Memoirs we have two feral tanks and only one outside major cooldown, Pain Suppression. For the purpose of each platform we take two impales where we need one major and a minor (barkskin) which we will always have up.

So what I needed was a macro that listed the cooldowns for the raid, enter this spreadsheet.

As you can see, the green area (which only I can edit sorry) can be edit and all the assignments will populate and generate my macro. So come next week if my off tank isn't there I will replace his name and cooldown with the third tanks cooldowns and the macro will pop out the end.

Tip:

I am assuming people have a general idea of how to assign values to cells (ie: =B3 for the first tanks name). I, myself had to look up the macro text and how to assign a value mid sentence or text.

Example:

/raid P2: Darksend:  Survival Instincts  / Tova: Pain Surpression

is actuall:

="/raid P2: "&$B$12&": "&$C$12&" / "&$B$13&": "&$C$13&" "

The "&{cell}&" is how I was able to add the values in.

Furthering the Streaming Cause

Proud of my main man Deadmau5 and his comments towards Madonna.

Yes, old news but on that note, about 4000 of us were watching his new live stream last night at http://live.deadmau5.com/

It's nice to see the exposer that is capable when something actually matters.
